Programme of the course
• Mathematical background : Fourier transform ; analysis of linear systems in time and frequency domain ; transfer function and impulse response.
• Elastic wave propagation in a homogeneous linear-elastic medium : P and S waves. General solution of 1D equation. Initial conditions and boundary conditions. Wave propagation in heterogeneous media : 1D models.
• Wave propagation in 2D. Plane waves. Surface waves.
• Fundamental solutions in elastodynamics : examples for the 1D, 2D and 3D case.
• Numerical methods for elastic wave propagation : finite differences, boundary elements and spectral methods.

Schedule
Starting from July 3rd. Following dates are July 6-7-13-14-20-21-24.
Scheduled time is 3h/day, from 3pm to 6pm, for a total of 24h.

Exam
Students will be assigned a homework to be discussed during the oral exam.
