The URBASIS-EU project is entering its final year. This last year will see great things being accomplished, in particular the completion of the work of the thesis students. Passing on and accompanying the students in their scientific development is essential as they are the ones who will lead the scientific advances and developments for safer and more resilient urban environments. Numerous publications produced by the students are already online on the project website and the final production will certainly be very important.
This last year will also see the organization of several training and dissemination events. Of course, the cancellation of past events should not make us forget that everything is possible but let's be optimistic and move from winter school to spring school! It will be an event that will be scientifically excellent and placed under the sign of good humor, conviviality and benevolence. Other events will be organized until the end of the project and it will be the occasion to make the assessment of URBASIS-EU project.
Finally, several scientific sessions in international conferences are scheduled, with the participation of senior researchers of the project, associated with other colleagues. By our participation in these events, we promote the need to consider the seismic risk in urban areas in a specific way and disseminate information on the progress of the URBASIS-EU project.
This last year will be again rich and full of success for the project.

"The third year of my PhD-journey came surprisingly fast. Starting the PhD, none of us expected that we will work during such unexpected and turbulent times. One of the biggest struggles in the very beginning was working from home - without physical interaction with other people and with a lack of possibilities to make any solid plans for the future. A lot of events I was really waiting for were canceled, or in the best case, postponed. For me, the past two years were like a rollercoaster with plenty of ups and downs, but I learned a lot of interesting and important things, and despite the pandemic-shadow, I managed to make some good friends in the completely new place where I moved for my PhD. Within the URBASIS project, we did our best to keep the interaction between each other alive, but I am impatiently waiting for the possibility to finally work with others in person. It's sad that with such potential for international collaboration, we couldn't fully use it, but I really hope that the coming year will bring us some great opportunities that we definitely won't waste."
"It has now been 2.5 years since I joined the URBASIS project and started my PhD. So far it has been a roller-coaster, from the highs of moving to a new country and starting my PhD, to downs of the Pandemic lock-downs and isolated home office. Throughout this time I have felt incredibly lucky to still live relatively close to my family and loved ones and also been able to work from wherever I was. Although I have missed out on many travels and networking opportunities, I had the chance to follow an almost unlimited amount of talks and workshops and collaborated with people far away. We really have learned how to be flexible and adjust on short notice during this pandemic.
Still, after the last six months where on-site meetings and some travels again have become possible, I have also realized the importance that face-to-face meeting and informal coffee-break talks, have on the motivation and creative inspiration. Now I am finally on my secondment and am looking forward to many more possibilities to meet in the coming year."
The programme of this Spring School is likely to change according to the speakers availability.
